The power of family: Lucas Lasserre back in the winner's circle
The SpeedHouse Racing owner scores his first EuroNASCAR PRO win since 2018
SpeedHouse Racing owner Lucas Lasserre made it to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series for the first time since 2018 as the Frenchman won EuroNASCAR PRO Round 2 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. With his family by his side at the 4.005 kilometer long track, it was a "family victory" for the NWES veteran who relied on his mother's call on the radio as she was the spotter for the #64 Ford Mustang during the EuroNASCAR season opener. With his son Gianni in charge of his father's logistics in Spain, the race win was special for the entire SpeedHouse Racing team.
"Racing, style and good times" is the motto of the French NWES powerhouse, and Lasserre scored his first win of the season in style in Sunday's 18-lap race. After finishing sixth in Saturday's first race, he started fifth in the second round. The 45-year-old made a good start and established himself in the top group of drivers fighting for a podium finish. After taking advantage of a collision between Gianmarco Ercoli and Liam Hezemans, Lasserre used all his experience to take the lead and defend it until the checkered flag.
The last time Lasserre visited Victory Lane was in 2018, at the Italian circuit of Franciacorta. With the Frenchman focused on his roles as team manager, driver coach and engineer at SpeedHouse in recent years, it was a blast for the entire team to see the #64 Ford Mustang back at the top of the standings. With his amazing results, Lasserre also took over the overall lead in Europe's premier NASCAR championship. Throughout the weekend, SpeedHouse Racing proved to have a phenomenal atmosphere in their garages and with the win on the team's tally, it was just one big party with all the drivers and team members involved.
"I want to thank all my mechanics and team members for their great work during the weekend," said Lasserre, who was full of joy after the race weekend. "It was a family victory as I had my mother at the track as my spotter. My son Gianni was in charge of my helmet, my suits and all the little things that are important to be perfectly organized. It was just amazing. Thanks also to my engineer, who couldn't be there this weekend, but I managed to set up all three cars with him on the phone. It was a great weekend with a great spirit and atmosphere.”
Lasserre is known as a humble man who always puts his teammates in the spotlight. "I am proud of my drivers. Florian Richard finished fourth in his first Club Challenge race and Alain Mosqueron made it to the podium. I know it wasn't always an easy weekend for Matthias Hauer, Arianna Casoli, Eric Quintal, Ulysse Delsaux and Neo Lambert, but we had a phenomenal time together. We also want to thank all our partners! Without them we could not be here. It was a great time and now I'm leading the overall standings. I will push and work hard to be back on the grid at the Indy Circuit of Brands Hatch.”
In addition to the great team spirit in the SpeedHouse Racing paddock, Lasserre also praised the EuroNASCAR PRO race on Sunday, saying that the race had everything to make a motorsport fan's heart beat faster. It was an intense race with lots of close battles, drama and breathtaking racing skills between the best NASCAR drivers in Europe. "It was a very strong race and we are really proud of it. I enjoyed every second of it," said the team owner and driver, who is now trying to put together a program to defend his championship lead when the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series visits the UK for the tenth edition of the popular American SpeedFest, with around 50,000 fans expected at the circuit and thousands more at home watching the live stream on EuroNASCAR's YouTube channel.
